The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday reported an 18.21% drop in focus crime from September 1 to December 19 this year compared to 2022.

“Base sa ating monitoring ng crime statics natin, particularly nung “ber months” po, mula September 1 hanggang December 19 ay bumababa po yung tinatawag nating focus crime,” said PNP spokesperosn Police Colonel Jean Fajardo in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(Based on our monitoring, particularly during the “ber months”, from September 1 to December 19 we saw a dip in focus crime.)

“Kukumpara sa nakaraang taon na nakapagtala tayo ng 12,554 na krimen, ngayong taon mula September 1 hanggang December 19, nakapagtala lang tayo ng 10,268… So, bumaba tayo ng 2,286 o 18.21 percent,” added Fajardo.

(Last year, there were 12,554 crimes. This year, from September 1 to December 19, there were 10,268 crimes. It went down by 2,286 or 18.21%)

Focus crimes pertain to “crimes against persons or crimes against property,” according to Fajardo.

However, she said that there was a “slight increase” in homicide cases.

“Kung titignan natin, etong homicide cases po ay mga personal na alitan na naguwi sa sigalot at pagkakasakitan,” she said.

(Homicide cases are personal grudges that ended badly.)

“The rest po, tulad ng theft, robbery, physical injury even carnapping ng motorvehicle, motorcycle ay bumaba po.”

(The rest, like theft, robbery, physical injury, even carnapping ng motorvehicle, motorcycle went down.)

Fajardo credits the PNP’s strategic deployment for the decline in reported crime in the past few months. She said more officers were deployed in crowded areas not only in the metro but in the regions as well.

The PNP, meanwhile, said that they have not monitored any serious threats ahead of the long Christmas break.

“Nakalatag na po ang ating seguridad para po dito sa ating mahabang holiday season… Walang seryosong banta regarding sa security ng bansa. Pero hindi natin pinagsasawalang bahala ang maliliit na informatin na narerecieve po,” said Fajardo.

“Yung ating mga pulis na dineploy po sa mga terminal sa mga pantalan at airports po, bineef up na po ang pnp deployment to make sure na nababntayan natin ang mga dapat bantayan,” she added.
