The family of missing cockfight enthusiasts or sabungeros from Bulacan lamented the lack of updates from authorities on the status of their investigation on the case.

According to Emil Sumangil’s Unang Balita report on Thursday, the families said they have yet to receive an update from the assigned police officer from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after the case conference with the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“After ng DOJ, ni ha ni ho wala nang paramdam sa amin (After the DOJ case conference, the police officer has not reached out to us),” said Maria Christina Ignacio, wife of Mark Joseph Ignacio.

In May 2021, Mark Joseph Ignacio, Neri Anticristo, Kiel Daniel Bohol, Glen Germar, Romaldo Diano, and Eric Legaspi went missing after a cockfight in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

Maria Christina said it has been almost three years but they have yet to obtain justice for their loved ones.

Aside from this, the families also lamented the court’s rejection of a search warrant that may help the investigation.

“Talagang lubos na kaming nadismaya. Hindi namin malaman kung bakit kasi mas malaki ang chances ma-link iyon sa mga ibang case ng nawawala,” Maria Christina said.

(We are really dismayed. We cannot understand why, because there is a big chance that it may be linked to other cases of missing sabungeros.)

In September, six people accused in another case of missing sabungeros in Manila were arrested in Parañaque City.

Marilyn Germar, wife of Glen, is doubtful that the case will prosper.

“Pero parang mapapawalan po talaga ng sala. Sobrang nalulugkot po kami (But it seems they will be acquitted. We are really saddened),” Marilyn said.

Eloisa Bohol, mother of Kiel Daniel, said they thought that the arrest of the six accused in the Manila case will be the start of justice in their case.

“Pero nakakadismaya kasi parang wala rin. Ang tagal na. Nakakaduda (It is disappointing because there is still no update. It’s been a long time. It’s doubtful),” she said.
