The local government of General Luna passed a remarkable environmental ordinance No. 003-18 dated July 9, 2018 with an objective to regulate single-use plastic products and to finally improve the waste management system in the municipality, which created prominent impacts and support across the island. This ordinance is titled “An Ordinance Regulating the Use of Cellophanes, Plastic Bags, and Styroforam for Container of Goods and Commodities that End Up as Residual Waste, and Promoting the Use of Eco-Bags and Other Environment-Friendly Materials as Alternative in the Municipality of General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte and Prescribing Penalties Thereof.”
