Rains with the possibility of floods and landslides are expected in the Visayas region over the next 24 hours due to the shear line, PAGASA said Sunday evening.
In a weather advisory released 11 p.m. on Sunday, the state weather bureau said the shear line is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains, which at times could be intense over eastern Visayas, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected over southern Palawan, the Zamboanga Peninsula, northern Mindanao, the rest of Caraga, and of Visayas.
“Flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards…” PAGASA said in its advisory.
“The public and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property,” it added.
A number of areas in Visayas and Mindanao were flooded earlier on Sunday due to the shear line and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan, forcing affected residents to evacuate.
At least two casualties have been reported so far in Misamis Occidental, where the local government reported damages to a nearby dike. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
