Following the Philippines’ exclusion from the draw held on Wednesday, the Cambodia Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) permitted a re-draw in the men’s volleyball competition on Thursday, but with one condition.

According to the local organizers, at least five National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), should agree to permit the country’s inclusion for a re-draw to happen.

“CAMSOC maintains its support and permits the organization of a re-draw of the men’s indoor volleyball team draw on the condition that five participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including the POC itself, … also agree to permit the POC’s inclusion and participation,” it said in a statement posted on Facebook.

On Wednesday, CAMSOC held a group draw for the event, but the Philippines was surprisingly not included in either Group A or B.

Indonesia, Singapore, and host Cambodia are bunched in Group A, while Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar occupy the other group.

PNVF national team commission head Tony Boy Liao previously told GMA Integrated News that they would seek clarification from the POC regarding the matter.

The issue came to light a month before the biennial meet kicks off on May 5 and with days left before the men’s squad flies to Japan for training. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
