Residents of Barangay Talomo in Davao City were evacuated to safety after a river in the area overflowed due to heavy rains brought by the low pressure area (LPA) and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said on Friday night.

Based on its latest river monitoring, the Davao CDRRMO said the Talomo River is still being monitored due to its critical level.

“Talomo River along Taal bailey bridge, Brgy. Talomo Proper is still monitored to be at Code Red (critical level). Aklihan Creek (Tributary of Talomo river) along Purok 23, Brgy. Sto. Niño is still monitored to be at Code Red (critical level) but subsiding,” the CDRRMO wrote on its Facebook post.

According to Super Radyo dzBB, residents in several areas in Davao City were also evacuated due to the heavy rains spawned by the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, a vehicle fell on the repaired road during the heavy rains in Barangay Biao Joaquin, Davao City. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly safe.

The Davao CDRRMO said the rest of the river channels in the province are monitored within the safe level.

An LPA and ITCZ are expected to bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA said on Friday.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

The weather bureau said flash floods and landslides are also possible during severe thunderstorms.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
