Converge extended its unbeaten run in the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup after a wild escape of Magnolia, 111-109, on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
With the win, the FiberXers improved to a clean 3-0 slate to seize solo leadership of the tournament while Magnolia dropped to 0-1.
The game was close until the end as Converge was only able to heave a sigh of relief when Magnolia import Eric Mccree missed a potential game-winning triple with Magnolia down, 111-109, in the final ten seconds.
Kevin Racal then secured the defensive rebound as the Hotshots failed to complete a comeback.
Prior to his last attempt, Mccree scored 14 of his game-high 38 points in the fourth quarter, where Magnolia trailed but pulled to within two after Mccree’s four straight points.
Converge reinforcement Jamaal Franklin registered 26 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and one steal as Converge continued on their good start to the conference.
Maverick Ahanmisi came off the bench but still churned out 22 markers and five boards while Alec Stockton posted a new career-high of 18 points.
