Veteran sports journalist and analyst Chino Trinidad is planning to hold talks with Asia’s premier martial arts promotion ONE Championship should he get appointed as the next Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chairman.
Trinidad, a former PBL (Philippines Basketball League) commissioner, is one the candidates to lead the governing body under the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. According to him, GAB has much to learn from ONE Championship.
“First thing I will do is to talk with ONE Championship. It is run very well, I saw that myself, and it was tipped to me by a friend,” Trinidad said in an interview on Sparring Sessions.
“It is very professional in its athletes who are competing and how they handle their sparring in the gyms, and how they monitor the weight reduction. They really have a good approach to it. That is one of the things we have to follow.”
And while Trinidad previously expressed that boxing and its fighters would be his priority should he take the reins of GAB, he nevertheless stated that mixed martial arts also deserves to have some push.
“We have to push for our mixed martial arts. Yes, I will be focused on boxing, but it is not that I do not know my mixed martial arts. I understand it in principle,” Trinidad stressed.
“I understand sports because I am on the ground, on the very foundation of almost all sports. Where there is action I make sure that I am there.”
